Dr. Joe previews his upcoming INBF/WNBF contest this weekend, the Natural Mid-America Classic in Evansville, Indiana. Dr. Joe also offers insight into how much cardio is necessary during contest prep for the Natural Bodybuilder, his views on where the WNBF stands in regards to other natural organizations and why the WNBF enforces an exclusivity contract with their athletes.

Philip Ricardo and Nicole Weeks

This week on Natural Bodybuilding Radio, hosts John Hansen and Mike Neumann review the IFPA Pro USA competition that took place on July 17th in Sacramento, California. First, promoters Tina Smith and Bob Bell explain the drug-testing procedures and review the competition. Then, Pro Men's winner Philip Ricardo joins John and Mike to talk about his impressive victory over Kiyoshi Moody and Cleveland Thomas.

In the second half of the show, Pro Figure competitor Nicole Weeks is the guest. Nicole, last year's runner-up at the IFPA Yorton Cup, talks about how she became a figure competitor and then candidly explains the differences in the top Natural Bodybuilding organizations and why she competes in the IFPA. Australia’s Natural Champions

This week on Natural Bodybuilding Radio, hosts John Hansen and Mike Neumann welcome Australia's finest Natural Bodybuilders to the show. Joining John and Mike are Warren Clampit, Mr. Natural Olympia and Mr. Natural Universe in the Professional Division. Warren is gearing up to take the Natural Olympia title back to Australia this November.

Justin Figara, a class winner at last year's Natural Olympia contest is also returning to the stage this year to claim the overall title at the Natural Olympia.

Finally, Nathan Wallace, last year's winner in the Junior division of the Natural Olympia contest, will be stepping up the Open division this year. These three great Natural Bodybuilders discuss their strategies for winning gold this year, their motivation to stay natural and the state of the art drug testing procedures that are being implemented in Australia.

Top Natural WNBF Figure Pro Carolyn Sandi joins John Hansen and Mike Neumann this week on Natural Bodybuilding Radio. Carolyn details the training and nutrition regimen that she utilized to become a Professional Figure competitor in the WNBF. Carolyn began competing in 2005 after being inspired by some figure competitors in a magazine.

By 2007, she had earned her pro card in the WNBF. She placed 4th in the 2009 Professional World Championships and is looking to improve her standing this year in 2010. I started competing in bodybuilding in 1994. I never really had a desire to compete but once I did it, my passion for the sport grew. I have promoted natural bodybuilding since 1995. I have helped hundreds of people get involved in the sport. I want to give all athletes the opportunity to compete in a well-run fair show. The INBF has stringent drug testing standards. I am proud of the fact that we do a thorough test and give athletes the opportunity to compete on a fair playing field against other drug free athletes. If you have the desire to compete, get out there and do it! Bodybuilding is a true individual sport and all of the competition ultimately is with yourself.

I have gained a new appreciation for bodybuilding. On August 28^th, 2007, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Jamie Broderick. Pregnancy is about the farthest from contest preparation you can be but all of the things I learned about nutrition and training helped me more than I ever imagined. I had a great team helping me with the delivery. Special thanks to my doctor, Mark Aversa, my doula, Madeline Browning and my nurse, former INBF figure competitor, Bonnie Gallacher Foley. With their help and my husband Jim Broderick, I was able to give birth without medication. All of the working out and good nutrition made it possible. Winning 4 World Championships was awesome but nothing in my life compares to the birth of my daughter. It was the most amazing experience of my life. Jamie is truly a blessing.

For all of you Mom’s and Dad’s who compete, I have so much respect. It is difficult enough when you only have to worry about yourself let alone one or more children. I have many people ask when I will compete again and I am not really sure. I do miss it. The last World Championships I competed in was 2004 and that was my fourth World title. Right now, I spend most of my free time with my daughter. I will compete again at some point but there is no rush for me since I know, there will always be another show.

As you prepare to compete, enjoy the process because it will make your journey to stage a lot more meaningful. You will take what they have learned preparing and competing and it will impact so many facets of your life. You never know when it will come in handy.

For 2008, the Northeast Classic is being held in conjunction with the WNBF Pro American. The show is great for beginners as well as Pros. If you have never seen a bodybuilding and figure show, this is a great one because you will see all levels. If you are interested in competing, please get in touch with me. There are so many great shows all over the United States. There are lots of people who can help you prepare. Good luck preparing for the INBF Northeast Classic
