Top Figure Competitor Katrina Roundtree

With over 30 competitions under her belt, Katrina Roundtree broke-out in 2004 as a bikini competitor. A Special-Ed Teacher, Mom, Trainer and figure Pro, Katrina climbed up the ranks to become a Yorton-Cup Pro-Champion in 2005.

Here’s what Katrina has to say about her start in Natural Bodybuilding:

I have always enjoyed competing in sports and I am blessed to have a lot of support from family, friends, and all of the positive people in my life. I have been running since elementary school and still enjoy the sport. I was a competitive Cross Country and Track and Field athlete at George Mason University for four years. I was a walk-on during my first year as a George Mason Patriot. Through hard work and determination I earned an athletic scholarship.

After college I wanted to remain active in sports, but due to a disappointing senior year in college plagued by hamstring injuries, I knew that running competitively had to take a back seat. I decided to run distance races to stay in shape and to support different foundations.

In 2004, I decided to compete in my first bikini show. I have always been shy, so it was a challenge for me to step on stage with six inch heels and “strut” my stuff in front of a lot of people. Now I am hooked!!

Champion Jason Janov and Super-Trainer Cliff Wilson

Special guests, young champion Jason Janov and Super-Trainer Cliff Wilson. First up is an interview with Jason, followed by an in-depth Q&A with Cliff Wilson on his best tips in preparing for a contest.

This is from Jason’s page on BodyBuilding.com: When I was a young kid growing up I was very active I was either out side building tree houses in the woods or playing what ever sport was in season for me. Whatever I was doing during that time I would put 100% of my effort into the activity. I was the type of kid who would get a goal or idea in my mind and let it be in my thought process 24/7, and do what ever it takes to achieve it. My father got me into playing football and signed me up to play going into the 4th grade. During that time football was my passion I loved every second of it. From Cliff Wilson’s website, TeamWilsonBB.com: What does being an all natural team mean to us? We work only with athletes in drug tested shows, in strictly tested federations. These federations are the NANBF, OCB, NGA, INBF and their pro counterparts [IFPA, WNBF]. Often people ask us what the difference is between tested and nontested shows, or if there is any at all. Indeed there is. The work it takes both on our part as well as our athletes’ is far different than the non-tested route. In order to thoroughly prepare for the stage and ensure you are both as lean and as big as possible, there are certain biological and metabolic processes that need to be understood. And many of those will vary from athlete to athlete because of genetics and conditioning. Taking any of the substances banned in our federations means altering those processes and following a different set of rules, bending and sometimes breaking what your genetics would otherwise limit or dictate.

ABA Natural North America Pro Connor LaVallie

Just 23 years old, Connor LaVallie won the overall at John Hansen's Natural North America competition in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Conner won his pro card, beating out some very tough competition. He's now getting ready for Team USA, which chooses the team to represent the U.S. in the INBA Natural Olympia later this year.

Here's some of Connor's 'I'm Coming Back' 2011 Contest Preparation Journal: My name is Connor LaVallie. I'm 23 years old, 6'3'' and about 210 pounds currently. I decided to start a new journal here detailing my journey to the stage for the second time in the last 2.5 years. I competed in 2008 at the Mid-America ProAm in Evansville, IN where I took 1st in the Men's Tall novice and 1st in the collegiate class. I competed again the following week in the Natural North Americans where I won the Junior class (20-21 year olds) and took 2nd in the men's tall class. I fell in love with the process and couldn't wait to make some new gains and try my shot at the Open classes. However, there were other ventures I needed to pursue…

Immediately after my first shows, I spent 4 month and 2 month stints in Italy and China for school and graduation from January 2009- May 2010. These were some of the greatest experiences of my life, but finding gyms and the right kinds of foods was next to impossible out there. Bodybuilding and fitness is the last thing anyone cares about in these other regions…… however, I believe living there just made me that much hungrier, and more appreciative of what we have back here in the United States. Progress took a backseat temporarily, but when I returned to the U.S. in June of 2010 I went from 190-225 pounds in 6 months and stayed somewhat close to the same body fat. I knew I improved my physique in the correct spots…. So I decided to come back and keep this ball rolling.

2011 Natural North America Champions Katie Miller and Brian Noe

ALBERTO NUÑEZ, 26, Hayward, California, USA has been training with weights for almost 10 years. Alberto's greatest accomplishment as a natural athlete was getting up on stage for the first time and it was something he will never forget. Also winning his first show made Alberto realize that he could do well in this sport. It was a very humbling moment for Alberto. Alberto's reason why he trains 100% naturally, "This sport was a positive transition in my life, and using drugs to better my physique would in my opinion pull away from that. I enjoy all the challenges, and flying to the top of the mountain would not do it for me. Its a privilege to be healthy enough to push your body to these extremes, if I did use I would feel like I would be taking this for granted." Alberto's future goals, "I want to be a good natural pro, not just on stage, but off stage as well. I want to promote the sport to the fullest, and give as much to this sport as its given to me over the years. Most of all have fun while I am doing it". Alberto would like to share with other athletes, "Be patient, work hard, and most importantly have fun. Surround yourself with positive people, stay away from the naysayers. Don't let bodybuilding take over your life, let it enrich your life". Alberto is truly a great natural bodybuilder who possesses an immense knowledge of the sport. With many natural bodybuilding titles to his credit he is an inspiration for other natural athletes to follow.
